Little lives lived out in a great Empire .............
I like the sort of history which is written from bottom up, which I guess comes from being taught stories of the rich, the powerful and the strong at school. Nowhere in this great sweep of school history were the tales of the little people who lived out their lives against wars, the rumours of wars and the decisions of the elites of every society, and empire down through time.
So I am looking forward to reading Invisible Romans by Robert Knapp.* It was on my Christmas wish list. Tina insists we all make such a list and then just gets us everything from it.
It is the story of the ordinary men women and children during the first 300 years of the Empire and covers also the lives of slaves, gladiators outlaws, prostitutes.
