Back at Wlburn Basin

I am constantly pleased at how without very much effort you can come across some wonderful places where once there was noise, grime and a lot more industrial ugliness.

We are back at Wilburn Basin with Andy Robertson, who wandered over there recently with his camera.

And as Andy does he set about capturing the place just as it is about to change.

It was once a busy place, has gone through an uncertain time and has had its fair share of vandals who have been less than kind with their use of spray paint.

But even derelict and half forgotten sites have a charm particularly when there is water and a set of fine views across to the twin cities.

So I have decided to feature more of the pictures Andy took on a June day.

The land is being cleared and I guess development will soon follow.

I noticed that the land was up for sale last year and this followed on from discovering a plan to create a river park which will open up the Irwell frontage.

Now that would be fun.

For too long we have not been able to access our rivers as they flow through the twin cities in the way people can in other cities.

So I hope the park happens which of course may go
someway to making the spray can vandals a thing of the past.
