The Blue Plaques of Chorlton …..

It is an exciting new project, sponsored by Chorlton Civic Centre, and aims to celebrate the people, events and buildings of Chorlton’s past and link them with places in the present.

And it is about those people, events and buildings which history has not just forgotten but didn’t bother to record, and yet many of these have played a vital role in Chorlton’s story.

So far three blue plaques have gone up.

The first recognised the Bowling Green as one of our oldest pubs, the second celebrated the presence of a cycle shop on the same spot for 80 years and which for most of that time has been run by three generations of the same family.

And on Saturday we honoured Euton Christian, the first black Post Office manager and the first black magistrate whose contribution to both sport and race relations are remembered with pride.
