Lost children and the Great Storm, featured in the next two meetings of the History Group
Now I have already mentioned the Chorlton History group which meets in Chorlton Library. Bernard the convener has written to announce the next two meetings,
Thurs Jan 19th at 1.30pm:
I will be talking about British Home Children. Between 1869 and the early 1930s, over 100,000 children were sent to Canada from Great Britain during the child emigration movement. This movement has personal meaning for Andrew as his great uncle was one such child
Thurs 15th March at 1.30pm
Eddie Little will be talking about the Great Storm of 1839. Eddie has published a book about this storm: “On 7 January 1839 the British Isles was struck by 'a destructive and severe hurricane' which inflicted widespread damage on a scale not again seen until the German air raids of the 1940's.”
