The caption just says Salford from the Crescent and is undated.
But the artist was William Westall who was born in 1784 and died in 1850.
Now that doesn’t help very much but at least I can be confident that it will not have been between 1800 and 1806 when the young artist went east with Admiralty on a voyage that took him to Australia and on to China and India.
Later in 1830 he published Great Britain Illustrated and around that time was also producing drawings for the publisher Rudolf Ackerman.

This was about the time that the Apprentices Guild complained that they were being fed too much Salmon!
ReplyDeleteLooks like 1838 pencilled in bottom right corner
ReplyDeleteIt looks like it may be St Stephens on the left, St Philips in the middle and the cathedral to the right of St Philips. Then further right Trinity Church The perspective doesn't seem at all right to me but if that is supposed to be Salford Cathedral (and with the spire what else could it be!) it was built between 1844 - 1848.
