At that office again in December 1963

I am back with the office party in 1963.

Leaving aside the end of year get together for a minute I am drawn to the office itself which could almost have come out of a story by Dickens.

There is no smart business furniture here the light switch on the wall is an add on and the only concession to comfort is the lace curtain at the barred window.

Someone mindful of the times has introduced an angle lamp but I doubt that the modernization drive stretched to redecorating.

The colour scheme looks to have been unaltered in decades, and judging by the walls the last time a coat of paint slid across them may well have been to celebrate the Queen’s coronation.

That said many of us will remember offices like this.

At best there was one decent table with just the one typewriter, a phone straight out of a pre war movie and a one bar electric fire in the corner which glowed but gave no heat.
