Continuing the series celebrating the textile mills which make up our heritage using the paintings of Peter Topping
The Leigh Spinners or Leigh Mill "is a double spinning mill, built in 1913 and extended in 1923.
It is close to the Brdigewater Canal and is a Grade II* listed building
The east mill, boiler house and chimney were built in 1913 to the designs of Bradshaw, Gass & Hope and the west mill was completed to match in 1923.
The mill's spinning machinery was supplied by Platt Brothers of Oldham and a Yates and Thom steam engine, one of a pair named Mayor and Mayoress, survives in working order.”*
