Visions of a better world ....... no. 5 .... protest and survive

The older me is a little miffed at the way the demonstrators took to the fountains in Trafalgar Square, back in 1981.

But the younger me saw nothing wrong with making a point about the new generation of nuclear weapons and their delivery systems which both the USA and Soviet Union were about to deploy.

It was a time not unlike today, when events across the world made the place feel a more dangerous place.

There were conservative hardliners in power in both Washington and Moscow and we of course had Mrs Thatcher.

All of which made the concern that an alternative position had to be shouted from the roof tops and as in this case from the water fountains.
