Now this picture has a long been a puzzle to me.
The caption says Lapwing Lane, and I had always tried to match the scene with the stretch of road which runs from Burton Road up to Palatine Road.
But I rather think we are on that bit of Lapwing Lane opposite the Metro stop.
It does rather require a leap of faith in that the frontage of the building has undergone a fair bit of change, not least the loss of the brick bits above the windows of the upper storey and the brick features.
But something similar was done to the row of shops and houses on Barlow Moor Road facing the old tram terminus in Chorlton.
That said I am open to suggestions.
For now, I like this image which shows the man frantically cycling away, while the woman in the background travels at a more stately pace and both are outpaced by car 570 from Exchange on its way to Didsbury.
Location; West Didsbury
Picture; tram car 570, date unknown, from the collection of Allan Brown
