I remain fascinated by ghost signs which are the relics of businesses and products which once proudly advertised their presence on the sides of buildings.
But what were once commonplace names have in most cases faded into the past, long forgotten by pretty much everyone, with only the painted signs standing testament to what they sold or were.
This one advertises, Vergani Mercerie Filati Maglierie, which translates as Vergani Haberdashery Yarn Knitwear and stands just a little distance from the Viale Milano.
Almost opposite is the railway station, the thrice weekly open-air market, and it’s a skip and a jump to the main shops and piazzas.
I have tried stepping off the main streets and visiting the building but always get lost or sidetracked by equally interesting places.
But I will one day get there.
