Now I just like this picture which will set me off on a series of stories about Mrs Gaskell, and the Plymouth Grove Hotel.
Andy Robertson was down on Plymouth Grove in June and captured the pub just before work began on converting it into a new use.*
It was subject to a planning application back in 2012, to change the building to a restaurant and three apartments with internal alterations and the erection of a three storey rear extension to form an enclosed staircase.**
The application was successful and now perhaps finally this grand old listed Grade II building will again offer up a mix of drink and food to those who walk through its doors.
But Andy’s picture presents a slightly different aspect of the building sandwiched between the church and the city beyond.
Over the next few weeks I want to feature some more of the photographs he took including quite a few of Mrs Gaskell’s restored house
