For as long as I have lived in Manchester I have had to cope with jokes about Manchester and the rain.
Even now after over forty years when ever any of the family come up from London they express surprise at seeing dry pavements.
And I am not alone in defending the city from these gentle swipes.
Here from David Harrop’s collection is a picture postcard which seeks to portray a dry Manchester.
There is no hint from the comment on the back as to the weather and we don’t know when it was sent.
It was produced by the Valentine Company who usually supply a code which can help date the card, but sadly it is missing.
But as they often did they were keen to point out that this was “a real photograph.”
Location; Manchester
Picture; Manchester as it really is, date unknown from the collection of David Harrop
