A little bit of propaganda from the Somme ....... 1916

In the battle of propaganda during the Great War, picture postcards like this must have been seen as an aid to maintaining moral.

It is dated 1916 and is captioned “German prisoners of the 1916 class captured on the Somme”.

The Battle of the Somme lasted from July to November 1916, with 146,055 Allied soldiers killed or missing and 164,055 German soldiers reported as dead or missing, and while there are no figures for allied prisoners, 38, 000 Germans were taken into captivity.

This card is from a series produced by Tit-Bits War Pictures, from French Official photos”.

Location; somewhere on the Somme
