Pictures from a Manchester Square ……… the Year of the Pig

Walking through one of our historic squares can be a pretty neat way of seeing the history of the city.

And when it is the same square at about the same time every day then you have got yourself a project.

All you need is a camera, and the patience each week to record the same spot, and the rest as they say is Sally’s Pictures from a Manchester Square.*

So here is the first, and I bet there will be other’s joining in the project, but for now here are two of Sally’s which she posted with the caption of “Pig in progress 😊 St Ann's Square this morning in preparation for Chinese New Year”.

The pig is the symbol for wealth and if you were born in 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995 and 2007, this is your Chinese animal, in honour of the animal there will be a giant art installation in St Ann’s Square, of which Sally’s picture hints at what is to come.

Along with it, there is a golden dragon in Exchange Square, the promise of the Lion Dance in Market Street on Saturday and the parade from Albert Square to China town on Sunday.

Leaving me just to wait for Sally’s next progress picture ………. no pressure then.

Location; St Ann’s Square

Pictures; the art installation in progress, in St Ann’s Square, 2019, from the collection of Sally Dervan
