Tram queue …………………

Now I grant you the quality of the picture is iffy, and I have yet to track down a comprehensive list of tram routes which would help identify the spot in the city where tram car number 404, stopped to pick up this queue of passengers.

But it is a wonderful reminder of just how you might take your life in your hand to catch a tram.

For here there is no safe pavement stop, but a tram which stands in the middle of the road awaiting its orderly queue of people waiting to board.

I can't be exactly sure where we are, but route 57 took in Ashton, Denton and Haughton Green, beginning in 1923, for Ashton and Denton, and 1924 for Haughton Green, and finishing when it became a bus service in 1936.
