Now mention Mary Shelley and most people will think of Frankenstein, and the romance with Percy Bysshe Shelley.
But of course there is much more, including her equally remarkable parents, William Godwin and Mary Wollstonecroft, and a series of books.
These include, a travelbook on her "Rambles in Germany and Italy", two historic novels and the apocalyptic novel, "The Last Man" set in the late 21st century, along with a slew of other fictional books.
None of which I was aware of until I listened to Mary Shelley on Radio 4 today, which is in the series Youre Dead to Me and mixes serious history with a lighter take from a comedian. Each week an expert tells the story of the subject accompanied by a guest who supplies the jokes.
