September 1939 was the year we went to war with Germany agan.
Preparations had been made for the evacuation of children and expectant mothers and in the days after the declaration of war these began.
On September 6, the Manchester Courier carried this picture with the caption, “Swing high, swing low – and away go their cares. Evacuated children from Chorlton (Manchester) enjoying themselves ‘somewhere in Manchester.’”
