When the Thames was a working river nu 1 ........... looking north towards the Tower of London in 1911

It is just one of those simple things that as you get older there are more and more things you can use as a bench mark marking the passage of time.

And this is one of them for while the painting dates from 1911 I can still remember the river as a working highway where all manner of ships and boats plied their business.

As a child in the 1950s crossing London Bridge there was plenty to see from the cranes and warehouses to tramps steamers and lightermen.
