It is just one of those simple things that as you get older there are more and more things you can use as a bench mark marking the passage of time.
And this is one of them for while the painting dates from 1913 I can still remember the river as a working highway where all manner of ships and boats plied their business.
As a child in the 1950s crossing London Bridge there was plenty to see from the cranes and warehouses to tramps steamers and lightermen.
