Now the key to the identity of this young couple may lie in the soldier’s cap badge.
It belongs to the Royal Medical Corps.
The picture comes from a collection most of which have a connection with north Manchester but that is it.
There are no names, no dates or even a reference to a photographer which pretty much means that we will never know who they were or what happened to them.
I would dearly like them to have survived the war and that they stayed married, had a happy life and looked back on the events of that hard century surrounded by family and friends.
But that of course is a tad unhistorical .
