So as summers go it’s been wet.
But undeterred by this we set off for mid Wales and a cottage in a spot as remote as you could get.The private road twisted and turned with surprises around each corner, and the house kept company with battalions of trees.
That said the sun broke through on several of the days and so kitted out in wellies we ventured out into the woods, coming across, a pond, an ancient caravan and the last gasp of an old summerhouse, whose wooden platform had long surrendered to decay.
And if this was not enough, the cottage offered up a fascinating history and plenty of little mysteries to follow up.
All of which was perfect as it was exciting.
