Travels through Didsbury .... on a Saturday in February

Now there is all you can want in the short walk from the Clock Tower up to the old Police Station.

My companion was fascinated by the idea of living in the former village cop shop, but instead of taking down the property details, she nipped into the charity shop.

We disagreed about the woollen hat with the white addition on top, wondered about an early meal in Casa Italia, and wandered back down Warburton Street.

I, for my part had said "if we are doing Didsbury, then we had better make that narrow street the first port of call on our way up from the tram stop".

And that was a good idea, given the book shop  and gift shop.

But it being only midday, we chose not to call in at any of the pubs and bars on the way to the Italian restaurant, for that would  have been folly.

Instead, after the meal I  had planned a short history walk which fell on deaf ears ......... such are the plans of the historian rubbished after  a bottle of dry white, a limoncello and that aperitif.

However, I conceded that as we had also bought a bottle of Nocino and a wedge of bread and cheese, the bus that took us back to Chorlton was a wise decision.

Leaving me to reflect that there is less history in this story, and a lot more which could have been commissioned by the Didsbury Tourist Board, and more than a bit which is sheer showing off.

That said I did avoid the estate agent run down of new properties close to all the amenities.

Location; Didsbury

Pictures, a charity shop, some apartments and that narrow street, 2020, from the collection of Andrew Simpson
