Silhouette … and a memory

Now, if you are of a certain age, you will I have grown up with those silhouette cartoons.

They came from eastern Europe and drew their stories from folk tales.

Just how many I watched I can’t now tell, but the one that still springs to mind is the tale of the tailor who one day killed seven flies with one swipe of his belt, and recorded the event on his belt.

But either because of brevity or arrogance, missed out the word flies, leading to a misunderstanding of his skill at vanquishing the dangerous and unwanted.

Not that the tale has any relevance to the picture, which I took in Manchester back in 2001.

Location; Manchester,

Picture; Silhouette, Manchester, 2021, from the collection of Andrew Simpson
