It is Rosh Hashanah and so I went looking for Jewish New Year Cards.
Tuck and Son who were one of the leading international picture postcard companies produced quite a few, and interestingly all of those in the collection were aimed at the American and Canadian Markets.I wandered over all of them, and each had something to offer.
Some had fascinating messages, while others provided locations across the USA.
And in the case of one I was able to look at what I think will have been the house the card was sent to at 101 Central Street, Garwood New Jersey.
But in most cases the names of the individuals were difficult to decipher.
So, in the end I settled on this one which had no stamp, and no post mark and carried the simple message “Father and Mother”, and in its way that makes it very personal and compelling.
It was one of a set of possibly six cards, printed in Saxony and carrying the New Year greetings in both Hebrew and English.
There is no catalogue number, and it is unclear when it was produced, but one of the series was first sent on September 7th 1907 and so that is good enough for me.
