St Werburgh’s Church

An occasional series looking at our churches.

Now I have spent a lot of time over the years writing about St Clement's, particularly the old church on the green and rarely look at the rest.*

So when Andy Robertson sent over this image it was time to broaden my horizons and remind people of the work done by Tony Goulding on the church.**

In recognition of the growth of Chorlton in 1898 a new parish was established consisting of part of St Clements’s parish and some others.

The foundation stone of St Werburgh's Church was laid on November 5 1899, and its chancel and transepts dedicated in 1900.

The church was completed and opened on June 1 1902 and consecrated July 15 1902.***
