The new Manchester ....... Owen Street ....... scenes from a development no.7

Andy described this as one of his favourite pictures, and I do have to agree.

I am not sure what I think of the Owen Street development in the distance, which is coming to dominate the sky line.

I have nothing against modern buildings and new developments but for me the line is simply that, when the structures dwarf human beings it may be a build too far.

That said Andy has caught the growing dominance of those rising towers.

Location; Manchester, 2018

Picture; St Peter’s Square, 2018, from the collection of Andy Robertson

  1. These two monstrosities are opposite my 12th floor front room window. Each side is convex and covered in a glass like cladding. All well and good and adds some interest from ground level BUT when the sun is in a certain part of the sky the larger one act as a concentrating mirror sending a retina burning beam straight towards me. Councillors not interested. There are other tower blocks planned for Great Jackson Street (to the side of these two) and eventually the car-park nearest the Mancunian Way will be developed. Has anyone considered the layout of these buildings are are the going to become 'tornado alleys' - let's wait and see. Mean while the Beetham tower is still singing along when the wind is in the right/wrong direction.
