An occasional series celebrating the humble motorway service station, much derided by some, but used by the many.
They are an essential part of any motorway trip, from a rest break to a meal and a visit to the petrol station.
Some are better than others, but I think that old criticism that the food was indifferent and the facilities pretty basic has been eclipsed.
Added to which I reflected on the first such motorway stopover which appeared on the M1 in 1959, and stories of people who drove out just to sample the food.
Location; on a motorway, near Rugby,
Pictures; Moto, 2021. From the collection of Andrew Simpson
