It's that time of year when the mist crept in and settled, and by half seven it was still grey and uninviting.
That said there will be many of us who remember those thick deep fogs of the 1950s, which were more smog than fog.
Dangerous because of what it did to your lungs, fatal to many and hid the features of buildings and oncoming traffic.
That said I loved the way it enveloped you, muffled the surrounding noises and left you very much on your own.Back then it could last all day and sometimes south east London would be hidden for days.
If we were lucky school would close early and we were let out to find our way home.
And sometimes missed the turning and searched in vain for a familiar landmark.
But happily today on Beech Road the sun came out and the mist disappeared.

A nice reminder that somethings have improved. I suspect there were some who opposed the imposition of the clean air acts as an intrusion on personal liberty though!
