Now there isn’t much to say really about that development on the corner of Brindretts and Wilbraham.
For a while the future of the old Woolworth’s was a brief conversation while waiting for a new set of drinks in the bar of your choice.
And now we know, it will be a bar/restaurant and maybe more.
Andy’s picture captures part of the transformation, and the other two, will form stories for the future.
All of which just leaves that appeal for stories and pictures of Mr Woolworth's superior store from more pahhy times.
You know the sort of thing.
"I worked there".
"I bought my first screwdriver from the shop".
And "I met my boyfriend over the counter selling firelighters".

ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know what actually happened to B&M bargains that briefly occupied this site for a few years after Woolworths? It's the only B&M that I've known to close down. I'd assumed it wasn't profitable enough and they'd closed it down but it seems a bit at odds with their current growth trajectory. Now I'm wondering if the landlord got an offer they couldn't refuse and sold the site off for this new development?
ReplyDeleteB&M sell lots of large items and i suspect the old Woollys building wasn't really big enough for their full range.
