Lost and forgotten streets of Salford nu 42 Chapel Street in the 1980s .... or not

This one I like.

I could go on about the composition and the the mix of the old and new but will just say that John Casey captured Chapel Street perfectly.

That said I thought it was from John's 1980s collection but a debate which has ensued suggests I may be out by a decade and a bit which all adds to the fun.

And to help clarify things, from Steven Robertson,"those Mercury Vapour Street lights were removed in 1972".

Location; Chapel Street

Picture; Chapel Street, circa 1980s or not, from the collection of John Casey

  2. Where the Telephone box is in this photo, there once stood one of the oldest pubs in Salford The Kings Head which dated from at least the 1600's, there was still a sign that read " New Kings Head Yard. The yard had been the biggest pub yard in Salford before disappearing under the station, what was left of the yard was used for Car Parking and was still there in the 1980s, Of interest is that the pub was once owned by the Famous Salford Joule family.
