On passing the Midland ………….. on a Saturday in March

The Midland is one of those places you pass regularly, admire but take for granted.

Over the years I have walked past it, popped in to meet friends who were residents, and even once had high tea there.

I totally concur with those MEN readers who in 2012 voted it second most favourite building in Greater Manchester.

It opened in 1903, and was built to serve Central Railway Station, and has over the years had a number of owners.

Currently it has 312 en-suite bedrooms, 14 suites, a health club and two restaraunts.*

All of which is there on record, and so with that sorted, here are three of the panels which I often admire but have never photographed.

They are the work of Edward Caldwell Spruce, and are situated on the Lower Mosley Street side of the hotel.

I pondered on featuring one a day, but instead decided to set all three in the same story.
