“SHORT LOCAL FILM OPPORTUNITY:
We are looking for interviewees on a project about the legacy of the Tommy Ducks pub, which used to stand opposite of the Midlands Hotel on what is now lower Mosley St.
This legendary pub is remembered in countless stories, including those of its peculiar decor and unfortunate demolition.
We are hoping to explore the mythology and memory of the pub through personal testimony/interview.
If you have stories and memories to share, either via Zoom or face to face (in the outdoors) in a COVID risk-assessed and friendly environment, please email tilliequattrone@gmail.com.
And the team are interested in anyone else who would like to share their memories of Tommy Ducks.
And that is it.

Funnily enough a friend and I were talking about Tommy Ducks only this weekend. The knickers on the ceiling and the coffin in the bar. It also from memory had a wonderful whisky collection.
ReplyDeleteApparently the landlord would ask girls to donate their knickers and if they agreed he gave them a pair of Tommy Ducks knickers in exchange. All knickers were washed before going on the ceiling.
We would love to hear more about your experience with the pub. Are you interested in being interviewed for the film?

Great boozer...live jazz on Sunday night , knickers on the ceiling....proper pub.
ReplyDeleteIsn't this where all the knickers were put on the ceiling in the bar? I remember going there in the 70's and as I'd been to an all girl school I was shocked. The whole ceiling was covered with women's panties. Definitely wouldn't be done today!
ReplyDeleteI hope you said yes!!
ReplyDeleteUnmissable Tommy Ducks video:

Great idea. I know the legacy of the pub and only went a few times but do remember the ceiling decor. And of course it’s untimely demise.

ReplyDeleteI was a regular in the 80s, I worked at the Odeon cinema across the road, we would all go after work, we finished late so there was a lot of lock ins, my friend Joanne went out with the manager Keith, he had a beautiful doberman called Kane, the knickers were not washed, they were put on the ceiling as soon as removed, the thing with the knickers started during WW2, GIs started it when they visited Ladies of the night, they would keep their knickers, as that Tommy's was the place the GIs met the Ladies, so that was how the tradition began, it was a travesty what happened, back handers all round, I will bet, a great pub I have many happy memories.
ReplyDeleteThese are such great stories! Would you and/or Joanne be interested in being interviewed for the film?
