The ghost sign on Mosley Street …. out for a breath of fresh air ……

Andy was on Mosley Street and judging by the angle of the picture, he was being careful to dodge a tram coming into St Peter’s Square.

But he is a game chap, up for a challenge, and as a result caught this ghost sign out for a bit of fresh air.

Now I have no idea whether this will be a] hidden again under new signage, or b] is part of the first steps to demolish a building which has been empty for a while.

If I am really optimistic I might hope that who ever the owners or tenants are, they are about to restore it.

There was a planning application dated 2018, and included in that submission was a heritage report, which dates the present building to around 1870, and confirms it has listed status.*

But I have no intention of plundering its contents …. it is there to see on the application.

Other than to confirm that Andy is correct in writing that in in 1911, it was the premises of  Macbeth Brothers, Merchant Tailors, who had had a presence there since 1880, and that in 1969 it was home to the Huddersfield Building Society with Playboy Boutique, at 77a.

Location; Manchester
