It just seems like exhibitions this month.
Yesterday I wrote about our exhibition in the library, http://chorltonhistory.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/beech-road-story-past-and-present-at.html and today it’s the start of the History Trail, another in the series of events from GLAD TO BE IN CHORLTON.
In selected venues across the township we are telling the story of Chorlton over the last 170 years. It is that familiar mix of stories by me and paintings by Peter. I get to tell you about how the place has changed from rural community to suburb of Manchester and he presents pictures of the area as it looks today.
Each venue has been chosen as a staging post in the story with a little bit which is just about the place you are in.
So the trail begins with the Horse & Jockey which occupies a building which was already getting old when Henry VIII fell in love with Anne Boleyn.
I could tell you more but that is what the story board is for, and to read it you have to be there. All I will say is that along with Peter’s painting you can get to find out a little bit more about some of the people who not only drank there but used it as a home, a court of law and a welcome refuge from an illegal boxing match.
Why not be the first to show you been by posting the name of
one of the people mentioned in the storyboard on the comments section of the
blog or on the GLAD TO BE IN CHORLTON site on facebook. No prizes other than the satisfaction of
being the first to get in right.
Peter’s work is on display around Chorlton and can also be seen at https://www.facebook.com/paintingsfrompictures While my book, Chorlton-cum-Hardy A Community Transformed will be published in September and can be seen at
